  {"id":68,"date":"2019-11-01T21:10:46","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T21:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/psyd\/?page_id=68"},"modified":"2026-09-11T13:08:31","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T13:08:31","slug":"program-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/psyd\/program-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Program History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 1987, the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) was founded introducing the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology.<\/p>\n<p>In 1993, the Commission on Accreditation (CoA) of the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at MSPP.<\/p>\n<p>In 2001, Argosy University was founded after merging the American School of Professional Psychology (which included the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology), the University of Sarasota, and the Medical Institute of Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, MSPP celebrated 30 years in continuous education of the PsyD in Clinical Psychology program.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, the Minnesota School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University PsyD in Clinical Psychology received 10 years of accreditation from the APA.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2019, Argosy University abruptly closed which interrupted PsyD students in the MSPP program.<\/p>\n<p>On June 27, 2019, MPR News shares an article:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2019\/06\/27\/augsburg-offers-argosy-students-life-line-mental-health\">Augsburg offers Argosy psychology students a lifeline<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On October 9, 2019, Augsburg releases\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/news\/2019\/10\/09\/augsburg-to-offer-new-doctorate-in-clinical-psychology\/\">Augsburg Offering New Doctorate in Clinical Psychology This Fall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">On October 20, 2019, the Clinical PsyD\u00a0program under the name º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ\/Argosy Teach-Out was \u2018accredited, inactive\u2019 by the CoA of the APA. This accreditation status designated an accredited program that was no longer admitting students. This status was granted to accommodate teach-out students from Argosy University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">On October 24, 2019, the Higher Learning Commission approved the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) as a program offered at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">On October 28, 2019, 22 teach-out students from MSPP began classes at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">In January 2020, the new º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ PsyD program brought in its first cohort of students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Effective December 8, 2021, the new º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓÆµ program was &#8216;accredited, on contingency&#8217; by the CoA of APA. The new Program is accredited, on contingency, through December 8, 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">On September 19, 2024, the teach-out program requested withdrawal from accreditation, as all Argosy University graduate students had graduated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif;\">Effective October 19, 2024, the teach-out program was withdrawn from accreditation by the CoA of APA.
