{"id":18192,"date":"2012-10-15T09:14:12","date_gmt":"2012-10-15T14:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/?page_id=18192"},"modified":"2026-09-03T15:05:59","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T15:05:59","slug":"health-insurance","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/exchange-students-j-1-visa\/health-insurance\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Insurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<p class=\"entry-title\"><strong style=\"color: #404040; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\">Students must be enrolled in a health insurance plan for their entire stay in the U.S., including school break periods.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>All international students (both F-1 and J-1 visa holders) are required to have ADEQUATE health insurance for the duration of their academic program at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ and every day they are in the United States as an international student.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage all students to carry their health insurance card and be aware of your options if you\u00a0<strong>BEFORE<\/strong>\u00a0you get sick or in case of an emergency.<\/p>\n<p>The following minimum level of health insurance during the visa period is required:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical benefits of\u00a0at least\u00a0$100,000 per accident or illness<\/li>\n<li>Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000<\/li>\n<li>Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000<\/li>\n<li>A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/f1\/health-insurance\/\">main insurance page<\/a> for more information.<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Options for our\u00a0Norwegian Exchange Partners:<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-24106\" src=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2021\/01\/Screen-Shot-2021-01-17-at-1.14.57-PM.png\" alt=\"Map of Sandavian with Norway highlighted\" width=\"326\" height=\"221\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2021\/01\/Screen-Shot-2021-01-17-at-1.14.57-PM.png 597w, https:\/\/www.augsburg.edu\/isss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/83\/2021\/01\/Screen-Shot-2021-01-17-at-1.14.57-PM-300x203.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3>HELFO<\/h3>\n<p>Norwegian exchange students who are studying in the U.S., and receive student loan funds through L\u00e5nekassen, are automatically covered by the Norwegian national health care. The coverage from HELFO meets the level of health insurance requirements listed above. Each Norwegian student is automatically waived from the Augsburg insurance plan and is responsible for understanding this healthcare coverage while studying at º¬Ðß²ÝÊÓƵ.<\/p>\n<p>Please review the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.helsenorge.no\/bo-i-utlandet\/studenter-utenfor-eu-eos\/\">\u00a0information from HELSE NORGE (HELFO)<\/a> regarding Norwegian National Healthcare for Norwegian students studying outside of Norway.
